Get the latest version of the Winter Crop Summary
12 March 2018
Make sure you're getting the most up-to-date information on variety performance and crop disease resistance ratings by grabbing a copy of the annual Victorian Winter Crop Summary.
Coming to mailboxes and online this week, the 2018 Victorian Winter Crop Summary provides the latest grain yield and quality data from the National Variety Trials (NVT) program, disease resistance ratings as well as agronomic characteristics of current varieties all in the one location.
Agriculture Victoria Grains Industry Officer Johanna Couchman said for growers each season the question remained the same – "Am I growing the best variety for my situation?"
As new varieties are released, the latest National Variety Trials data becomes available and disease resistance ratings are updated.
Ms Couchman said the Winter Crop Summary provides the opportunity to compare varieties across a number of characteristics.
"Growers can use it as a guide for discussions with consultants, advisors and marketing agents," she said.
Ms Couchman said new to the Winter Crop Summary this year is one oat, one field pea, two lupin varieties, and a number of new wheat and canola varieties.
"It's always important that growers check the disease resistance ratings in the Winter Crop Summary for any changes, so they can make the best decision for their situation and proactively manage diseases throughout the season," she said.
"NVT long-term predicted yield data means growers can compare variety performance across several years, and see which varieties have yield stability across different seasonal conditions."
Hard copies of the Victorian Winter Crop Summary have been mailed out to all GRDC GroundCover subscribers, but the Winter Crop Summary is also available online.
Growers can also interrogate the National Variety Trials long-term yield data via the Long Term Yield Reports App and NVT website.
