Animal Welfare Advisory Committee (AWAC)
The Animal Welfare Advisory Committee is a non-statutory committee formed by the Minister for Agriculture to provide expert and strategic advice on animal welfare related issues.
Expressions of Interest now open for membership
The terms of reference for the AWAC have been revised and it is now an expert advisory committee to support the Minister for Agriculture in providing strategic advice on significant animal welfare issues.
The Minister for Agriculture is seeking expressions of interest for up to eight positions on the Animal Welfare Advisory Committee, for a term of up to three years.
The role of the Animal Welfare Advisory Committee is to contribute to improving the welfare of animals in Victoria.
Applicants are required to have skills and experience in one or more of the following areas:
- agricultural, animal or veterinary science
- wildlife and conservation management
- animal welfare expertise
- public policy
- commercial, recreational, display and scientific use of animals
- ethical standards and conduct in respect of animals
- care, breeding and management of companion animals
- any other area that the Minister considers relevant.
