Victoria's Draft Action Plan for Animal Welfare
In September 2016, the draft Action Plan for improving animal welfare in Victoria was developed in partnership with the Animal Welfare Advisory Committee and other key animal industry and welfare organisations. When finalised, this Action Plan will be Victoria's first-ever strategic planning document for animal welfare.
The proposed Action Plan will enable Victoria to build on our existing strong reputation for animal welfare and identify the future direction for animal welfare in this state.
The Draft Action Plan was released for public consultation between 11 September – 11 October 2016.
The majority of submissions were highly supportive of the Draft Action Plan and the action areas that included legislative reform; compliance and enforcement improvements; and collaboration. There was also strong support for animal welfare education and communication.
All the feedback received through submissions, workshops and meetings will be incorporated into the final Action Plan to be released later this year.
The Government thanks all individuals and organisations who contributed during the consultation period.
