Victoria’s Draft Action Plan for animal welfare
The proposed Action Plan will enable Victoria to build on our existing strong reputation for animal welfare and identify the future direction for animal welfare in this state.
The Draft Action Plan - Improving Animal Welfare in Victoria 2016 – 2021 has been prepared in collaboration with the Animal Welfare Advisory Committee and other key animal industry and welfare organisations. This Draft Action Plan sets a proposed agenda for effective and proactive action in animal welfare over the next five years.
The aim is to focus on our shared responsibility for improving the welfare of animals in Victoria by using a collaborative approach.
The three key priority areas suggested to improve animal welfare in Victoria are:
- Action Area 1: To develop new, contemporary laws for animal welfare in consultation with Victorian stakeholders and the community.
- Action Area 2: Collaborative approaches underpin knowledge, commitment and investment in animal welfare.
- Action Area 3: Compliance and enforcement is efficient and effective.
The government is now asking Victorians to assist in setting the direction of animal welfare into the future.
The consultation period for the Draft Action Plan closed on 11 October 2016. The government thanks Victorians for their feedback and submissions.
