In 2018–19, Victoria had approximately 3530 dairy farms spread across three dairy regions: north, south-west and Gippsland.
The industry produced 580,000 tonnes of dairy products, most of which was fresh or powdered milk and cream, and cheese.
The dairy sector is the largest agricultural industry in Victoria, accounting for a significant percentage of annual national milk production.
Its exports are valued at $1,954 million and its major markets include China, Japan, Indonesia, Singapore and Malaysia.
