Employing labour can be a daunting issue particularly if you have never done it before. For one thing, you want to attract and employ the right person, but also these days there are a lot of policies and procedures which have to be followed, particularly around workers' rights, duty of care and OH&S.
To help with these and many other aspects of employing farm labour The People GPS course is going to be run again in the north east. Past participants strongly urge other dairy farmers to attend, stating the course was essential for dairy farmers who employ or are thinking of employing staff.
Many participants said it provided very valuable information that they were unaware of as employers or potential employers and that they were glad they attended.
The course covers issues such as:
- Ways to attract and retain staff
- Conducting interviews
- Conflict resolution
- Negotiating fair pay rates and conditions
- Farm workers awards and condition
- Insurance and liabilities
The course will be run by NCDEA. For those wanting to enrol, or should I say, feel they should enrol, please contact the NCDEA on 1300 062 332.
