Interstate 1080 pest animal bait supply
What was the interstate 1080 bait supply pilot program?
The interstate 1080 bait supply pilot program began between Victoria and NSW in March 2014 as a short term initiative while a legislative amendment was made to enable mobile manufacture of fresh meat 1080 baits in Victoria.
The program was administered under a Memorandum (MoU) of Understanding that enabled Victorian landholders, that resided or managed land in certain parishes, to purchase 1080 pest animal bait products from the South East or Murray Local Land Services (LLS) in southern NSW for use on their property in eastern Victoria. NSW landholders that resided or managed land in the South East or Murray LLS regions could also purchase 1080 pest animal bait products from certain Victorian suppliers for use on their property in southern NSW.
A review, undertaken by Agriculture Victoria in January 2016, found that while the interstate bait supply program provided a backup supply option for impacted communities, sufficient amounts of 1080 pest animal bait products could be sourced from within Victoria to meet demand.
The interstate bait supply pilot program ceased in March 2017, following the expiry of the MoU between the Department of Economic Development, Jobs, Transport and Resources and the NSW LLS.
