Ground Up is a campaign to build awareness of the need for everyone across the Goulburn Valley to help manage Queensland fruit fly (QFF) and how they can do their part.
Fruit and vegetable growing is vital to the Goulburn Valley region. In 2013 total horticultural production for the area was valued at $485 million.
QFF is a significant pest which can infest many varieties of fruit and vegetables. In the Goulburn Valley QFF is established and eradication is no longer financially or technically viable. Consequently, QFF management is part of everyday life for the many commercial fruit and vegetable growers in the region.
A wetter than average summer in 2015 has seen higher QFF numbers across the region and increased concern from many in the industry and community that a more coordinated effort is required to manage this pest.
Through Ground Up, we are asking the community to do their bit and help support the horticulture industry. The impact of this pest can be reduced by everyone working together.
More information will be available on this campaign shortly.
