The Code of
Practice for the Keeping of Racing Greyhounds (the Code) was approved by the
Minister for Agriculture on 23 April 2018.

When will the new Code come into effect?
The Code will commence on 1 January 2020.
This start date allows time for thorough implementation planning and for participants to prepare for, and understand, the Code's requirements. Animal Welfare Victoria will work with an implementation working group to develop templates, protocols and procedures that will assist industry participants to comply with the Code's requirements.

Consultation on the draft Code
A Regulatory Impact
Statement was developed to accompany the draft Code prior to its release for
public comment on 14 June 2017. A letter of adequacy was also provided by the
Commission for Better Regulation on 3 March 2017.
