Conference promotes positive outlook for meat industry
22 August 2023
Producers will get the latest industry updates from a line-up of expert speakers at the Gippsland Red Meat Conference next week.
Supported by Agriculture Victoria, the conference aims to help beef and sheep businesses of all sizes increase productivity and resilience through knowledge and technology sharing.
Held in Sale for the first time, the full-day conference will feature a range of interactive presentations, including a session dedicated to on-farm emissions with Richard Eckard from the University of Melbourne.
The session will explore current industry trends around carbon neutrality, managing emissions and schemes that farmers need to prepare for.
East Gippsland farmer Scott Langley will take attendees on a virtual tour of his farm, which will document how he has worked through challenging drought conditions to successfully grow his operations across two properties.
Supporting young farmers will also be a key focus of the conference, with a program of activities aimed at empowering the next generation of producers and creating pathways into the industry.
Industry experts will also share the latest information about livestock markets, genetics, animal health and farm business development.
Agriculture Victoria Director Agriculture Services Kate Linden said the conference was a credit to the event organisers, Gippsland Agricultural Group.
‘The conference is continuing to go from strength-to-strength and is a great opportunity for red meat producers to learn, share information and build industry connections.
‘We are proud to support this event, which delivers direct benefits to Gippsland farmers and helps to grow Victoria’s $4.48 billion meat industry,’ Ms Linden said.
Agriculture Victoria will be part of a range of trade displays, offering practical information and advice on key topics such as farm biosecurity planning and climate emissions.
The conference will be held at the Sale Baptist Church on August 29 starting at 7.30am with trade displays, followed by the conference from 8.30am – 5.10pm before the industry dinner, showcasing Gippsland produce at 6.30pm. For more information visit: https://gippslandag.com.au/events
