The Victorian Government has invested more than $84 million as part of its support to the Victorian agriculture sector as it navigates uncertainties created by the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The Big Victorian Harvest campaign was launched as part of the Seasonal Workforce Program in 2020 to raise awareness about supports available to businesses and incentives for seasonal workers.

The Seasonal Workforce Program has increased worker accommodation options and improved transport and support services in rural and regional areas. It has also engaged with communities to raise awareness about job opportunities and provided opportunities for training and skills development. Industry and community groups also received support to assist with addressing workforce issues and other key challenges during the pandemic.

In 2022, the Victorian Government’s support will focus on building capacity within the horticulture industry to ensure businesses can manage their harvest workforce needs. The Horticulture Farm Monitor Pilot and Seasonal Workforce Group Traineeships in Horticulture will help industry to improve operations and workforce retention.
