The Landcare networks Heytesbury District and Kiewa — Wodonga Districts have been considering their landscape futures through the New Futures for Victorian Landcare project for 2025.

Expert Presenter

Dr Michael Vardon is an Associate Professor at the Australian National University. He is a world-leading researcher and practitioner of natural capital and ecosystem services accounting, specialising in applying it to decision-making in the public and private sectors. His knowledge spans the collection of basic data, account compilation, analysis, indicators, and key policy areas such as biodiversity conservation and water management.

Michael has developed and implemented accounting in more than 30 countries. Formerly the Director of the Centre of Environment and Energy Statistics at the Australian Bureau of Statistics and the Inter-Regional Advisor on Environmental-Economic Accounting to the United Nations, Michael was also a member of the Editorial Board of the System of Environmental-Economic Accounting (SEEA) of the United Nations and the Policy and Technical Expert Committee of the World Bank’s Wealth Accounting and Valuation of Ecosystem Services (WAVES) Global Partnership.

Michael is currently serving on the Australian Government’s Technical Advisory Panel on Environmental-Economic Accounting and is the Team Leader for one of the Expert Groups updating the SEEA Central Framework.
