Variable Rate Irrigation (VRI) farm walk
EVENT DESCRIPTION
Come along to James Clyne’s farm in Newry to find out how he was able to get VRI to reduce water wastage and increase pasture production on his undulating centre pivot irrigated paddock.
James will talk about the process of adopting VRI technology on his dairy farm, as well as the wins and the learnings of adopting this innovation.
In the first year of the trial, an estimated 11.4ML of water was saved using the VRI in the 2022-23 season, an 18% saving relative to conventional irrigation. These savings are estimated to increase to 16ML this irrigation season, a saving of 26% relative to conventional irrigation.
What to expect:
- Explanation of the process of developing a VRI prescription
- See the pivot and its prescription in action
- Hear from James Clyne and his experience with adopting this VRI technology
- Chat to the people that made it happen - James Craft from Lindsey Zimmatic and Lewis Bolton from Flowsmart
- Free barbecue lunch
This demonstration project has been supported in partnership with Agriculture Victoria and the West Gippsland Catchment Management Authority.
