The law aims to protect animals from neglect and cruelty, and to protect the community from animals becoming a nuisance or danger.
In Victoria, prohibited procedures relating to dogs are ear cropping, debarking and tail docking.
When travelling with dogs it is the owner or person in charge’s duty to ensure the animal is transported appropriately and provided with its essential needs.
Dog owners must securely confine dogs to their property. The yard must have a closed gate and escape-proof fence. There must be safe access to the front door.
We acknowledge the traditional Aboriginal Owners of Country throughout Victoria, their ongoing connection to this land and we pay our respects to their culture and their Elders past, present and future.
