The department offers diagnostic services for control and prevention of diseases in livestock and wildlife, and for control and prevention of pests and diseases in plants.

Veterinary Diagnostic Services

Veterinary Diagnostic Services (VDS) conducts:

disease investigation
health certification
research for the control and prevention of diseases of livestock and wildlife.

It provides assistance to Government disease surveillance programs and emergency response and supports trade and market access.

The laboratory has expertise and offers diagnostic services in:

veterinary microbiology
bacteriology
virology
serology
histopathology
anatomical pathology

Crop Health Services

Crop Health Services (CHS) is the commercial plant pest and disease diagnostics service operated by the department. CHS offers a broad range of diagnostic tests.

Our clients are:

growers
crop consultants
agronomists
chemical resellers
agents
nurseries
Australian Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF)
other state and federal agriculture departments
home gardeners.
