Information for applicants

Grant amount

For round 2 of funding, a maximum grant amount of $25,000 (excluding GST) will be awarded per eligible application.

The grant amount awarded will depend on the total cost of the apps and devices you have selected to purchase in your grant application and if the solution selected meets the assessment criteria.

You will be required to make a minimum co-contribution of $1 for every $2 grant money awarded, based on the cost of apps and devices excluding GST.

Applications close at 5pm on Friday 26 February 2021.


To be eligible to take part in the On-Farm IoT Trial you need to be a producer from one of the following industries:

  • Dairy
  • Grains
  • Horticulture
  • Sheep

Located in any of the following regions:

  • Wellington Shire
  • Buloke Shire
  • Loddon Shire
  • City of Greater Shepparton
  • Moira Shire (selected areas)

What documents do I need to apply?

  • A trustee declaration form if you are a trustee on behalf of a trust.
  • A quote for the solution you intend to purchase from an approved IoT trial supplier

The Catalogue of Apps & Devices

Grant funding can only be used to contribute towards the cost of acquiring apps and devices selected from approved suppliers. The list of suppliers and a sample selection of available technology can be found in the Catalogue of Apps & Devices.

Applying for a grant

If you wish to participate in round 2 of the trial, the process of applying for a grant is as follows:

  1. Read the applicant guidelines to determine your eligibility and for full details on the grant.
  2. Read the Catalogue of Apps & Devices to find the list of approved suppliers and understand what technology is available on the trial.
  3. Speak directly with suppliers listed in the catalogue to determine what technology best fits your farm business.
  4. Obtain a quote from your chosen supplier/s (you may purchase from multiple suppliers and multiple technology solutions). This quote must be attached to your online grant application.
  5. Get in touch with your regional Industry Technology Coordinator if you have any questions.

I’ve applied for a grant. What happens now?

Agriculture Victoria will assess your application in accordance with the applicant guidelines for the trial.

Agriculture Victoria will contact you with the outcome of your application within 12 weeks of the closing date.

If you are successful in applying for a grant, you will be offered grant funding to support the purchase of your selected apps and devices. You will be required to accept this offer by entering into a Grant Agreement with the department.

You will need to return your signed Grant Agreement to the department before you can purchase your apps and devices.

When can I purchase the technology I’ve selected from the catalogue?

You need to return your signed Grant Agreement to the department before you can purchase your apps and devices for the trial.

You will need to purchase and install your apps and devices as stipulated in your Grant Agreement.

Grant funding cannot be used for apps and devices you have purchased before signing your Grant Agreement and returning it to the department.

When will I receive my grant payment?

Once you have purchased your apps and devices, you will need to submit a claim for reimbursement of your grant.

If you are successful in applying for a grant, you will be provided with further information on how to submit your claim.

How long will it take to install devices on my farm?

Please contact suppliers of apps and devices directly to discuss your installation needs.
