About the Strategic Partnership
AGG Strategic Partnership
The AGG Strategic Partnership is a $30M joint investment between the Victorian State Government and Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC) that aims to unlock the genetic potential of plant genetic resources for the benefit of the Australian grain growers.
The AGG has the mandate to acquire, conserve, maintain and distribute genetic resources to plant breeders and researchers to underpin the development of more resilient and productive grain crop varieties for the benefit of the Australian grains industry.
The AGG’s ultimate goal is to unlock the genetic potential of plant genetic resources for cereal, oilseed and pulse crops to underpin the development of high yielding, climate resilient crops that will benefit Australian grain growers.

Collaboration
The Australian Grains Genebank (AGG) operates within the global system of agricultural genebanks for the exchange of seed lines and associated data. The AGG routinely imports new seed lines into Australian each year, with the majority sourced from other international genebank programs.

The Australian Grains Genebank (AGG) collaborates with Australian and international organisations to share knowledge and information for capacity building, germplasm metrics, and processes and protocols to improve genebank best practice.
We raise awareness of the benefits – for both Australia and developing countries – of investment and involvement in work for food and nutrition security and the many other impacts of agricultural research.
