Planning tools to support your farm

Agriculture Victoria has made simple tools to help with farm planning and business management. These tools guide you through assessing risks, setting goals and tracking your progress.

Why plan for drought now

Drought can cost your farm money, harm your community and cause long term impacts to your farm’s natural assets. Taking  time to plan ahead, minimise losses and help your business recovery.

Farm business risk management courses

You can sign up for courses that cover farm business risk management. Industry experts designed these courses to give you practical strategies for your farm.

Learn from real farmers: case studies and videos

Read case studies on farmers using stock containment areas during drought and dry seasons:

  • Simon Brady (Rhymney)
  • Charlie and Marie Crocker (Violet Town)
  • Ian Brown (Cowangie)

Watch dry weather farming videos by Tony Coombes and Andy Smith to see their methods in action.

Managing resources in drought

The managing resources in drought guides break big planning tasks into simple steps. Use them to plan feed, water and grazing for your livestock.

Stock containment areas for tough times

Stock containment areas (SCAs) let you fence off part of your farm to hold, feed and water animals during drought or after bushfires. SCAs help reduce soil erosion, speed up pasture recovery, limit weeds and improve stock care.
