Cream of the Crop: Bringing Victorian Produce to a Wider Audience Through Ice-Cream

3 October 2024

Agriculture Victoria and Food + Drink Victoria are introducing more Victorians to more local producers – through ice-cream.

Five exclusive ice-cream flavours featuring some of Victoria’s premium agricultural produce from across the state have been developed in partnership with Melbourne ice-creamery Billy van Creamy.

Agriculture Victoria Acting Executive Director Policy and Programs Julie Simons said the
initiative highlights the incredible diversity and quality of Victoria’s agricultural produce.

“By partnering with local producers and businesses to deliver The Scoop, we’re giving more Victorians the opportunity to experience the exceptional food products grown and made in our state,” she said.

“The Vic Grown program is about showcasing the best of Victoria, and we’re thrilled to see our world-class produce celebrated in such a fun and accessible way."

From today, The Scoop ice-cream truck (locally designed and fitted-out) will be handing out free ice-cream over four days at four popular destinations across Melbourne:

The Scoop flavours will also be available for purchase at Billy van Creamy stores in Brunswick and Fitzroy North from 7 October through to 31 October.

Montague Farms, one of the producers involved in the activation, have contributed their trademark Envy apples to the sumptuous sounding cinnamon myrtle, brown-butter apple pie ice-cream flavour, which also features products from Lard Ass Butter and Chin Chin Farm.

“This initiative not only showcases our high-quality, Vic Grown ingredients but also connects our Sweet Envy apples with the community in a unique and delicious way.” said Angela Bracken, the Senior Marketing Manager for Montague Farms.

Food + Drink Victoria CEO, Anthea Loucas Bosha said she was incredibly proud to be delivering the Vic Grown Program, which includes The Scoop, in partnership with Agriculture Victoria and Billy van Creamy.

“Food + Drink Victoria is grounded in celebrating Victoria’s outstanding produce, as well as highlighting our hard-working farmers and Vic Grown and The Scoop do exactly that.”

The Scoop is a part of the Victorian Government’s Vic Grown Program which promotes quality Victorian produce to a bigger, broader audience through a series of multi-platform activations, delivered in partnership with Food + Drink Victoria.

Food + Drink Victoria is the parent company behind the world-renowned Melbourne Food & Wine Festival and is a not-for-profit organisation which champions Victorian food and drink.
