Agriculture Victoria proudly acknowledges Victoria’s First Nations peoples and their ongoing strength in practising the world’s oldest living culture; and we celebrate the contribution of Aboriginal people and communities to Victorian life.
Traditional Owners managed Victoria’s land, water and natural resources for tens of thousands of years and continue to express their ongoing connection to their country and culture. We acknowledge and pay our respect to Traditional Owners of the lands and waters on which we live and work.
Historically, colonisation and dispossession enabled agricultural industries to establish in what is now Victoria. These policies contributed to the far-reaching and intergenerational trauma experienced to this day by Aboriginal people and communities and have limited their participation in contemporary food and fibre production. In keeping with the Victorian Government’s commitment to Aboriginal self-determination, Agriculture Victoria has a role to support the ongoing connection of First Peoples to their Country and help strengthen their participation in agriculture.
