Victorians invited to help shape biosecurity in the state

Victorians with an interest in protecting and enhancing biosecurity are encouraged to apply for Biosecurity Reference Group (BRG).

Agriculture Victoria is seeking expressions of interest for the third term of the BRG, from 2026 to 2029.

The group brings together people from across Victoria to provide independent advice and support the implementation of Victoria's Biosecurity Strategy.

Executive Director Biosecurity Victoria Charlotte Austin said biosecurity outcomes are stronger when they are informed by diverse experiences, knowledge and perspectives.

‘Biosecurity is everyone's responsibility, and protecting Victoria's farms, environment and communities relies on people working together,’ Ms Austin said.

‘We are looking for people from a range of sectors, regions and backgrounds who can share practical insights, identify emerging issues and help shape future biosecurity priorities.’

Members work with industry, communities and government to inform policies and programs, strengthen connections across the system and champion biosecurity within their networks.

‘The BRG helps us understand the opportunities and challenges facing different industries, regions and communities across Victoria,’ Ms Austin said.

‘It is a valuable opportunity to contribute to decisions that support Victoria's agricultural industries, natural environment and way of life.’

Former BRG member Kerri Robson encouraged interested Victorians to apply.

‘Being part of the BRG gave me the opportunity to share local knowledge and practical experience while contributing to discussions that help shape biosecurity across Victoria,’ Ms Robson said.

‘I encourage anyone with relevant experience, knowledge or community connections to consider applying, Ms Robson said.

Applications are encouraged from people working in agriculture, supply chains, environment and natural resource management, research, science and technology, and community and regional organisations. Applications from First Nations people are strongly encouraged.

Applications close Sunday 23 August at 11.59pm and can be made through the Biosecurity Reference Group Committee form.
