Interested in learning the latest in pulse cropping? Growers and agronomists are encouraged to attend the Southern Pulse Agronomy Field Day at Woomelang on Wednesday 27 September.

Experts will provide information on weed and disease management, new pulse varieties and best practice agronomy for pulse crops.

Agriculture Victoria Senior Research Scientist, Dr Audrey Delahunty said the event will feature experts from Victoria and focus on the Mallee region with seasonally relevant information.

Agriculture Victoria Pulse Pathologists Dr Josh Fanning and Miss Chloe Findlay will discuss trials on the site that investigate disease management options, including varietal resistance, fungicides and agronomy for the control of Ascochyta blight and botrytis grey mould in lentil.

‘At the Woomelang Field Day site, we have a trial designed to investigate and demonstrate the efficacy of cost-effective management strategies to control Ascochyta Blight and Botrytis Grey Mould in lentil varieties of varying disease resistances.’ Miss Findlay said.

Agriculture Victoria Pulse Breeders Drs Arun Shunmugam and Babu Pandey will also be attending, showcasing new varieties of lentil and field pea and discussing priority traits in the breeding pipeline.

Guest presenter Dr Larn McMurray will provide an update on herbicide tolerance and the latest varieties from Grains Innovation Australia (GIA).

The field day will finish with a BBQ lunch and provide an opportunity to catchup with pulse experts and other attendees.

The field day is in partnership with the Birchip Cropping Group (BCG) who support part of the Southern Pulse Agronomy program.

This program is a co-investment between Agriculture Victoria and the Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC).
