Truck wash and effluent disposal facilities review
Victoria has a large domestic and export meat processing sector. It needs an efficient, cost-effective and clean fleet of livestock transport vehicles to help maintain a profitable and disease-free livestock industry that benefits livestock producers.
In 2023, we commissioned a review into the adequacy of Victoria’s livestock truck wash network. RMCG completed the review.
In 2025, we established a new steering committee to continue this important work. It includes industry leaders in the livestock and transporting sector.
In 2025, we contracted RMCG to:
- expand on the findings of the 2023 report
- provide further recommendations to address the gaps in Victoria’s truck wash network and effluent disposal.
This new work follows further truck wash closures in the state. These closures put pressure on livestock transporters and the broader industry.
The report found Victoria’s truck wash network continues to provide good coverage across livestock production areas with room for improvement.
