Compliance and movement conditions of electric ant host materials

Understanding restricted movement

Electric ant host materials are not allowed to move freely into any part of Victoria from the electric ant biosecurity zone. The zone is in place in Far North Queensland and includes 6 council areas:

  • Cairns Regional
  • Yarrabah Aboriginal Shire
  • Cassowary Coast Regional
  • Tablelands Regional
  • Mareeba Shire
  • Douglas Shire.

This zone is based on the Electric ant biosecurity zone map published by the Queensland Government. All persons and businesses must comply with Victoria’s entry conditions when moving electric ant host material from this zone into the state.

List of electric ant host materials and restricted movement requirements

Any movement of electric ant host material into Victoria needs a permit issued by Agriculture Victoria and must comply with the requirements established by the Victorian Plant Quarantine Manual.

To apply for a permit, visit the Plant biosecurity permit page.

Below is the list of electric ant host materials. Follow the links to see their importation requirements:

Movement requirements if transiting through Victoria into another state

Electric ant host material transiting through Victoria into another state and coming from the electric ant biosecurity zone does not need to be verified only if both the following are true:

  • The plant consignment is not opened or split in Victoria.
  • The method of transport remains unchanged.

If the shipment of electric ant host material is opened or split in Victoria or the method of transport changes, the restricted movement requirements apply and the Victorian importer needs to be approved under an interstate certification assurance ICA-17.
