Domestic Animal Regulations 2025
The Domestic Animal Regulations 2015 have expired and have been replaced with the Domestic Animal Regulations 2025. The updated regulations can be found here.
As per the Subordinate Legislation Act 1994, the Domestic Animals Regulations 2025 (proposed regulations) and an accompanying regulatory impact statement (RIS) were prepared for public consultation. Documents, including the final statement of reasons can be found on Engage Victoria.
The key minor amendments made to the regulations include:
- clarifying reporting periods for approved organisations
- removing outdated transitional provisions
- minor changes to prescribed identifying information (microchip data) to include an email address
- update to the most recent microchipping national standards
- inclusion of new infringement penalties
- reduction of infringement penalties for various offences, including for failing to register a pet, due to enforceability issues
- updated fees to increase cost recovery.
