Get into Gums - Adaptations (Yr 11) aligns with Unit 2, Area of Study 2 of the VCE Biology Study Design. This workshop also aligns with Unit 3, Area of Study 1 of the VCE Environmental Science Study Design.

Overview

Get into Gums - Adaptations (Yr 11) has students explore the biodiversity and adaptations of eucalypts. Students rotate through three hands-on laboratory workstations that include:

  • exploring physical features of branches and leaves in relation to the environment
  • investigating microscopic reproductive adaptations of the woody gumnut fruit
  • classifying eucalypt species using a dichotomous tree
  • exploring eucalypt DNA using simple bioinformatics software.
