Victoria is growing its potential to provide the booming Asian population with quality products. We are aiming to double our food and fibre production by 2030, making it a great time to consider a career in agriculture. But remember, agriculture is more than farming the land – it’s about our whole food and fibre industry.

There is a range of industry groups and organisations that provide information on careers in agriculture.

• AUSVEG – The ‘Growing a career in horticulture’ website offers a range of information on jobs in the supply chain, training providers and resources.
• Dairy Australia – Dairy Australia provides resources for dairy careers and opportunities on farm through its Stepping Stones resource kit and the Cows Create Careers program.
• Career Harvest – A hub for cutting-edge careers in the food and fibre industries. Whether you’re interested in feeding the world, adapting to climate change, developing the environment or managing future energy sources, this site helps create clear pathways to your agricultural career.
• Skills One – Offers videos and articles on hundreds of careers across 10 sectors, including ‘rural and farming’. Skills One provides an excellent snapshot of the booming industries in agriculture and the wealth of trades that exist.

Education and training in food and fibre

• The Good University Guide – The Good Uni Guide is the only comprehensive and independent information source about tertiary education pathways. It includes postgraduate courses like the MBA, and career options in Australia. The agriculture information page is a great resource to find out what to expect in a diversity of careers in food and fibre. You'll also find education pathways into such careers.
• Victorian Skills Gateway – The Victorian Skills Gateway is a one-stop shop of Victorian vocational education and training. You can search on occupations, courses, training providers, and video and written case studies. The courses on the site are either regulated qualifications under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) or short training programs comprising units of competency from regulated qualifications.
